I asked one of our student workers this week what his go-to music playlist looks like. He said that as far as worship/Christian music goes, it’s definitely Hillsong, Passion and one other. That got me to thinking about something that the Wickham brothers mentioned almost in passing in Convocation yesterday. When Evan and Phil were talking about their childhood, one of them mentioned some of the bands they used to listen to. One of those bands was a group from the UK known as Delirious? That one word brought back to me a flood of memories of incredible worship music and concerts in the 90s and early 2000s.
Before there was Passion, Vineyard, Hillsong and Elevation worship, there were other pioneers who set the stage for modern worship to be embraced far beyond church doors. Delirious? and the band Sonicflood were two of those pioneering bands. Now Weekly Thoughts is certainly not a music review blog or just my reminiscing of music from the past, but today I thought I would change the flow just a bit and plug in the links to two songs from each of those bands. You might recognize them, you might not. My prayer is that as you listen to these songs – and give yourself some time and space to listen to them, not necessarily while you’re working, studying or working out – you will be incredibly blessed and drawn closer to our Lord Jesus.
“Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness” (Ps. 29:2, ESV)
“All the nations you have made shall come and worship before you, O Lord, and shall glorify your name” (Ps. 86:9)
“Worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness; tremble before him, all the earth!” (Ps. 96:9)
